    Save the wave

Where did this phrase originate, and what does it mean ? Forgive me, I'm a rookie.

It's been around for a long time. Here's a funny 1969 article from Corvette News about the wave: http://www.vettenet.org/vettewav.txt

Re: Corvette owners wave at each other............

It used to be that all Corvette owners waved at each other when they passed on the street. As the newer models became more plentiful and I think four lane divided roads came into use the practice has waned. Some years ago there was an effort to restore the practice and there were articles in some publications like Corvette News etc. urging to "Save the Wave".

Old Corvette people seem to always wave. New Corvette people seem to look funny at you if you wave. With the advent of the dark tinted glass on newer Vettes, it's hard to even see the driver, much less tell if he/she waves at you.

I still get the wave, but I have an advantage...

Driving a Harvest Gold '55, with its brilliant yellow and tons of front end chrome, lacks only subtlety.

                    Is not restricted to Vettes

I find the older the Vette, the more likely you will get a wave. When C4s were new, the chances of getting a return wave was about the same as from a C5 owner today. Now I get lots of waves from C4 owners. Anything before C4, no problem. I always get a wave.

I also find just about anyone with a restored car made before the late sixties waving, paticularly Mustang owners. Its Ok with me. I can appreciate anyone's pride and joy, regardless of make and return the wave.
