    joe lucia belt size ?

I am looking for the correct size belt for a big block that goes around the crank and water pump?? I have some notes from the last time you gave me this info , but i did not right down if this belt size is for the water pump to crank. I have GM 3952336 that was 15/32 X 31 7/8 long and something about a gates 7315xl will fit Is this the right one?

    About a 34 or 36 waist, I'd guess.

    Jeff,

He's gone until Thursday. You can try again then.

Going on Sunday to the seminar?

If you are looking for very good repro, try Quanta Products.

        Gary,

You had to take the fun out of it, didn't you?

The Quanta belts are great, but one caveat I found on my car: they are so close to original that they will slip and/or come off just as much as the old ones at high revs. If Jeff wants to bang his car through the gears at 6500rpm (OK, even 4000 in my experience) then he may be better off with a similar length belt of newer materials.

        Just my $0.02

Hey Patrick, just checking, but this is the NCRS forum where us weird guys go looking for originality right?

Just yanking your chain a bit.

            Been there...

Snapped two of the repro cloth wrapped belts on my '71 SB which I drive frequently (50K miles now and three Founder's Awards). Decided to bite the bullet, visit Mr. Goodwrench, get a FULL set of modern service replacement belts (different size, due to different width + different PN and configuration) and take the originality deduction(s). Original is not always 'good'....

BTW, if you buy the reproduction cloth wrapped belts, make SURE you have correct/original pulley compliment. All too often, individual pulleys got swapped by prior owners/mechanics during the car's prior life.... Just because the pulleys on your car look old or were reputed to be the originals doesn't mean they really are the originals! Most have identifying GM P/N embossed on the front or rear....

              Hi Dr. Hulst!

Same experience in my 1967 327/300 car - belt kept slipping off (I'd notice the temperature guage start going up) at >3500-4000 rpm. Correct pulleys, etc. After the second time I called the Quanta folks for advice; they were extremely nice, had me return the belt for inspection & sent me a new belt. Which now hangs on my toolbox, newer GM in the car.

                Hi Dr. Rose!

Yes, I contacted Quanta as well. My belts are now set aside for any future judging, and I run Goodyear replacements.

If your pulleys are properly aligned and you use Dayco "Top Cog" belts, you'll NEVER throw one - best belts going. On judging day, swap 'em out for Quantas.
