engine noise

maybe one of you can help me!!
when i first start my 79 vette
about half way through warm up
it makes a screeching noise for a short
period of time until its warm.
can you help????

The ususal 'suspects'

are PS pump, water pump and A/C compressor, assuming the car is NOT in motion during the warm-up period you mention. If you're in motion, other items could be responsible. A mechanics stethoscope can help pinpoint....

I agree with Jack. Typical screeching is usually a loose fan belt. Groan with steering is usually low PS fluid (indicative of another problem). Would not think it is an internal engine problem based on your symptoms.
