I have a 67 Coupe with side exhaust. Can someone tell me if these were factory istalled only, or did dealers retrofit side exhaust upon buyer request? I can see where the rear exhaust exit holes have been filled, but the side pipes appear to be original, and the previous owner tells me they are. Thanks for the help.

Agree....
Side exhaust at the factory exploded (impacted) a number of 'upstream' assy areas including body build. If was was equipped with this option, 'mods' had to be made to the body in a number of areas including the rear valence panel--an alternate assy without holes for through-frame pipes was used.
The fact that your car's rear valence panel shows evidence of glass 'fill' suggests (STRONGLY) it was not a factory original 'piper' car and you should expect a full deduction for the exhaust system during concours judging. But, if you bought the car to drive/enjoy, relax--drive/enjoy!- Top

Re: 67 Side Pipes PS
It's been along time, but when I installed these cover's & pipe's I beleive I had to cut off the bottom of the frt. fender panel for the cover to extend around. Did the factory put on lower panels that were already cut for the side pipe cover or did they just wack it off like I did.- Top

Re: 67 Side Pipes PS
John, according to the AIM, the factory "whacked" both front and rear tabs on the fenders for the side pipes. Maybe someone else can elaborate on this.
