C-2 AM/FM Dial does not Switch from FM to AM

AM/FM Radio Dial/Band face does not switch. It stays on the FM band when changed to AM. What is involved with repairing this? What is most likely gone wrong? I am hoping this is something that can be repaired by myself in a short time, the car is headed for the Regionals in two weeks. The radio operates fine with this dial/band exception. Oh, can the radio be taken out without major dash disassembly?

If radio sucessfully operates in both AM and FM modes, but front dial band indicator doesn't switch in synch, it's a mechanical problem in the tuner section of the radio.

Could be as simple as a lock washer having fallen off the dial band selector arm (find it floating in the chassis, and reconnect) or a more serious problem as selector actuating arm has broken.

There are threads in the archieves for pulling radio. If done correctly (read your Shop Manual/Chassis Service Manual), you can have 'er out reasonably fast.

Once you pop the top cover and look at how the tuner section's AM/FM selector works (electrical switch with mechanical arms to flip dial band), you'll readily see what's wrong.
