    painting manifolds

What is the best product to paint(coat) exhaust manifolds to keep them from rusting.

I've had the best luck with a product available from Mid America Designs called "performance choice" manifold dressing. It comes in a round, flat jar. Apply it to your exhaust manifolds with your finger, rubbing it in as much as possible. Use the included brush to apply it to the hard to reach areas. When the manifold becomes hot, it kind of cures itself and looks like a natural cast gray. Mine has lasted over a year with no touch up. Good luck!

      Steve:

I used a "dressing" Calyx that makes them look awesome. Got it from Ecklers. However, the stuff doesn't ever seem to set up or dry. So working on the car always gives me steely hands. Small price to pay for nice cast iron exhaust manifolds! I like the stuff and its super easy to apply. It doesn't seem to fade or lose its color, and reapplication is a snap.

I used Eastwoods Stainless Steel colored Exhaust dressing six years ago on my former 69, It looked as new when I sold it, simple, inexpensive and long lasting

I used manifold paint from POR-15. I sandblasted my very rusty manifolds, then painted them with the POR-15 using a brush. They still look great and I don't have any problems with the finish rubbing off, since the paint fully cures (unlike manifold "dressings").

After judging (with the requisite blend of rust and orange paint), I re-did my manifolds, after a light blasting to get the rust and orange paint off, with Eastwood's "Factory Gray"; that was three years and 4,000 miles ago, and it looks great and hasn't required any touch-up. The stuff lasts!

              Steve,
              I have a 67 327,the manifolds were in poor shape,rusty etc.
I removed them, had new studs replaced and glass beaded at the same time(any machine shop).I ordered original cast color exhaust paint from Eastwoods,I also bought a airasol paint kit(Eastwoods) which allows you to spray paint any liquid you want (up to light oil consistency). They turned out PERFECT!!!
Call Eastwoods, they will walk you thru the process.

I have also used the Eastwoods manifold paint. Looks natural and lasts well. Unfortunately I blasted it all off and put the orange paint on a couple of weeks ago, but after it's judging days are over, I will clean them back up and repaint them. John
