I noticed under the dash of my 1966 small block roadster near the amp gauge is a small cylinder with one wire not connected to anything. It has a metal, u-shaped male connector on the wire. Does anyone know what this is? It's clipped to the backside of the instrument panel near the bottom.

Re: 1966 Capacitor?
Crack open your AIM. Go to section U-69 (radio) and check out the various 'hush up' capacitors used when radio option is installed. I suspect you'll find this is one of 'em. Some connect to inputs via existing screw/bolt fasteners while others 'pin' to adjacent wiring runs.
If you re-connect it without verifying it's functionality, you may realize why it was left undone (internally shorted causing fuses to pop). Verification requires a capacitance checker to verify (1) raw storage capacity and (2) internal leakage profile. Few folks have such instruments, but I posted a thread a while back giving a 'poor boys' method of verifying capacitor integrity using a volt-ohm meter.- Top
