    1966 Capacitor?

I noticed under the dash of my 1966 small block roadster near the amp gauge is a small cylinder with one wire not connected to anything. It has a metal, u-shaped male connector on the wire. Does anyone know what this is? It's clipped to the backside of the instrument panel near the bottom.

Crack open your AIM. Go to section U-69 (radio) and check out the various 'hush up' capacitors used when radio option is installed. I suspect you'll find this is one of 'em. Some connect to inputs via existing screw/bolt fasteners while others 'pin' to adjacent wiring runs.

If you re-connect it without verifying it's functionality, you may realize why it was left undone (internally shorted causing fuses to pop). Verification requires a capacitance checker to verify (1) raw storage capacity and (2) internal leakage profile. Few folks have such instruments, but I posted a thread a while back giving a 'poor boys' method of verifying capacitor integrity using a volt-ohm meter.
