    63 T-10 Follow-up

I recently asked some questions concerning 63 tranmission identification. One of the replies was that the 63 Corvette and the Chevy 409 were the same with the exception of the input bearing retainers. The 63 Corvette input bearing retainer was 4 3/16 to fit the bellhousing.

Are the number of input shaft splines for the 63 Corvette and the 409 Chevy the same? What parts are required to be changed to allow a 409 T10 to fit into a 63 Bellhousing? What is the estimated cost in parts? Is this a major undertaking?

Yes, splines and all other aspects of the trans are interchangable. All you need is the correct bearing retainer for the '421 bellhousing, remove the '409 version and replace with the small one. The configuration of the t-10-D series case gives you the small bearing that is unique to '63. That is the important part of the equation.

What is the normal date spread between the main case, the tail housing and the shifter plate. Is there a maximum time for the shifter plate and the tail shaft housing to precede the main case? What would a judge look for to insure that the Transmission is correct?
