Shock Paint Color C-2

I am looking for the proper, what will pass as OK, color to paint my shocks. The book says gray, I have heard blue-gray used? What color will be ok, i.e, will plan old gray enamel work, gloss, semi-gloss ???

I purchased some shock absorber paint from an aftermarket company last year and it had their bar code description as "Shock absorber gray paint". It was in an aerosol can made by Seymour Paints and labeled as "16-117 Gloss Dark Gray". The look is somewhat blue-gray but mostly gray. I believe it is as a correct color. It should be available from any local hardware store that sells Seymour Paints. The coverage and look is excellent.

about your car and its equipment. If it's a 63, gray or blue-gray is not correct.

Actually 63 shocks were semi to medium gloss black and later shocks were semi to medium gloss not quite dark gray. I mix my own paint to match some originals I have.

Joel, one way to do this; Find an original Corvette at a friends', local club etc. with the correct color shocks. Get a paint sample book from your local paint store (one of those long skinny books with a million paint colors in them) find the correct match and take it to your local auto parts store and find a spray can that closely matches the correct color. That's how I did mine and I never got a deduction for color.

I judged '67 chassis at a regional meet here in New Jersey last year with
some very experienced master level judges. The main items they were
interested in was part numbers and dates and labels.
There were not so critical on the shades of grey color.
It's dark down there,even with a flashlight and a mirror.
