Does anyone know the part number for the exhaust manifold gasket for a 396?

    Thanks for the assist.

Chris, No original Corvette had exhaust manifold gaskets installed. You can get them , after market.

Thanks for the response. I am in the process of restoring a 65. I pulled the exhaust manifolds and discovered that they did not have gaskets. Happy to discover that this is the way it is supposed to be. One less thing to worry about.

While you've got things apart, it might be wise to have a machine shop 'true' the engine surface of your manifold. Factory didn't use gaskets because everything was fresh, new, in-spec. With repeated heat/cool cycles, you can expect some degree of surface creepage. That's why gaskets are offered aftermarket.

Would be a shame to get everything re-done fresh and hear 'tick tick tick' when you initially fire the puppy dog!

Good idea. I will make a point of doing it.

          Thanks,

            Chris,

Yep, no gaskets. When I bought my 396, they were on there. It was a sacrilige. Couldn't wait to get them off. I cleaned up both surfaces with a wire wheel, and no leaks at all.
