    Emblem repair

Has anyone successfully glued a post back on to an emblem? The 'StingRay' emblem on the back of my '63 has a post that broke off. I tried JB Weld on it and that did absolutely nothing! I even roughed up the two pieces first.

    Recommendation?

    Thanks.

That's a tough fix. I can't say I've ever seen an emblem mounting post repair that actually held up....

      Gary,

The problem with things like JB weld in that kind of application is the amount of torque applied to the stud when you try to srew on the press nut. I managed to re-fasten one side of the bracket on a mid-year speaker grille using simple epoxy (a fair bit of it), but the threaded stud in that case is truly threaded, not like emblem studs which rely on the press nut to 'cut' their own threads. It's probably not repairable, short of going to someone who can 'weld' pot-metal.

        Gary,
I havent tried it yet but my thoughts are to drill and tap the emblem for a small threaded stud or screw. If that doesn't seem workable to you you might try a jewelry repair shop near you. Some of the larger ones may have a laser welder. I haven't tried one on pot metal yet yet but they are supposed to work on that stuff. If you can't find one and you want to drop me a line I will be at a trade show in late May/June where I can demo one and I would be glad to try it on your piece for you. Let me know. It may not be worth all of the trouble as most of the trims are available as repro fairly cheap.

          All, thanks for the input.

Dan, thanks for the offer but, I think I will just get a new (repo) one!
