I recently purchased a used heater "Y" duct to replace my missing one in my 63 SWC. This is an early car with vin 30837S1060xx. Heres the problem or question--The duct is either the wrong one or the side radio panels are incorrect because part "A" does not meet up with part "B". I thought that all 63-67 "Y" ducts were created equal???. Or do I have the wrong side panels. Thanks for your help as always.

Re: 63 Heater Y Duct
If I remember correctly, the 63 Y duct is unique. Haven't had my 63 apart for awhile, and don't remember the differences. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: 63 Heater Y Duct
Dean,
I can't help much with the identification, as the y-duct is missing from my 65 roadster. If it turns out that the 63 is a unique part and the one you have is correct for my 65 I might be interested. I haven't tried to find one yet, so I am not sure how hard they are to find.
Thanks,

Re: 63 Heater Y Duct
Hi there,
I wish I had a dime for every time I hear, "that part is unique to the '63". I get the same when searching for parts my 63SWC. I am finding the same with my '84. Maybe it is due to these being the first year of the new design????
good luck with your project

Yup!
Didn't your father tell you never to buy a new design the first year. Lots of running changes. Most of them were in by mid production on the '63s. I recall reading somewhere that the '84s had over 300 running changes, and some pundits on this board have referred to '68s as "a continuous pilot build" or something along that line.

Many radio side covers
As others have pointed out, the '63 Y-duct is unique in shape and fastening. You can mate a '64-7 Y-duct to a '63 heater box (sort of). However, a '63 Y-duct has slightly taller front and rear panels and a small screw-on extention on the driver's side.
The side covers changed a bunch between 1963 and 1967. On the left side, only the '65 and '66 designs were identical. On the right side, The '63 panel looked like the '64 - '66, but it had an extra screw mounting hole. The '67 non-air cars had a unique right panel. The '67 right a.c. panel looks like the '64-6 design. I don't really want to get into the fiberglass colors except to say the colors changed over the years much like the exterior body panels.
The bottom line for you may be this: shop eBay and you can find the right parts pretty quick. Just base your bid on the photos, not the text. The text descriptions offered by sellers are seldom accurate.- Top

Re: 63 Heater Y Duct
I have a 63 convertable. I am also missing the "Y" duct and I checked around a little bit. The 63 "Y" is a 1 year only part. 64 through 67 have an extension on the "Y" I believe on the drivers side. It was done to get more warm air on the drivers feet. You might be able to cut it to fit. Or just keep looking for the correct part. I keep looking and figure someday I'll find the correct part for my car. Good luck.- Top
