    Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit

I want to convert my 1972 Big Block distributor from the points to one of these new Electronic Ignition Conversion Kits.

Anyone had any luck doing this and what do you think? A big improvement?
My car seems to knock a little under high revs, I had the carb and distributor rebuilt to specs and all new ingition parts put in.

I've sold a lot of these...

To Mustang owners, and installed more than a few. The unit we sell is the Pertronix, and the results are that if you have kept your old point set perfectly adjusted, you will see no substantial improvement. The significance is it will STAY at that level of performance. Remember, the slightest creep in the dwell setting will also change the timing. It must be removed for show, however, since it has 2 wires going to the coil instead of one.

The car will run much smoother and with the higher capacity coil the plugs will burn cleaner, plus of cours, no points to burn out. The other thing you could do is adapt the 75 and on HEI distributor, they are also exellent. I have put these petronix systems on at least 7 or 8 cars. Very satisfied.

There was a vendor at Carlisle selling a new kit with only one wire. I am thinking it is the Dave Fielder, the TI guy, who offered this service. I saw the setup and it looks totally stock from the outside, until you raise the dwell window. There are ways around that too but that is another story. Once my car is through with judging, I am buying one of these single-wire electronic conversions.

The next issue of The Corvette Restorer will have a story about the installation of the Pertronix system. Stay tuned.

Terry, I understand that Pertronics has two types. Will you be covering both in the artical? From what I read one has a 5 second warm-up time prior to starting the engine....

No Gene, only older style. There is no mention of a warm-up delay.
