    1961 Hardtop

Where are some places to look to purchase a hardtop?

Keep an eye on Driveline. Also, Glassworks sells them. They are quite expensive. Cranes Corvettes on the west coast advertises them also. eBay has one from time to time. I think I saw one advertised on the Corvette Forum in the past few days. The fully restored ones seem to run $3500-4000. A decent "driver quality" that may need glass replaced and weatherstripping can be had for half that amount. However, replacement of the glass and w/s can be quite expensive, especially if you farm out the work.

Just thinking out loud here. Yes, they are very expensive, and I can't figure out why. From the shows, it would seem that very few people use them. Most owners drive their cars only on nice days, and they want to drive with the top down. Can't figure this one out.

Some of us drive the cars year around and the hardtops are a LOT more weathertight.

I use my hardtop ('61") all winter when the weather is nice. A lot less drafty then my soft top and keeps the heat in the car.

Additionally, some folks just like the lines of the car with the hardtop installed. I have occassionally had local residents tell me that "there's a car just like yours here in town, but it's a convertible instead of a coupe." They don't even realize the hardtop is removable.
