My one parking brake has been disconnected at the wheels since I got the car three years ago. I am now ready to take on the job of repairing both sides but don't know how to get to the p. brakes. Does the bearing have to be pressed off? I have a'63 GM manual but of course those brakes are different. Can anyone give me some brief directions? Lee

Re: '65 Emergency (Parking) Brakes

At a minimum, you have to remove the rotors to access the parking brakes. If the rotors are still riveted to the spindles, this will mean drilling out the rivets and removing the rotor from the spindles. Then, using a special tool available for a nominal cost from most of the Corvette vendors and a lot of perseverence, you can service the parking brakes.
Quite frankly, though, if your rotors are still riveted to the spindles and are in good condition, I recommend leaving them that way. In that case, you'll need to press out the spindles/rotor assemblies using a special press tool or "spindle knocker". With the spindle/rotor assemblies removed, servicing the parking brakes is easy.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Shop manuals
The '63 Corvette Shop Manual is the basic manual for your car, but you need the '65 Corvette Shop Manual Supplement to cover the new features for '65 including disk brakes. I believe this supplement is available from the NCRS Store and the usual Corvette parts vendors.
