Yesterday I disassembled my rear spring. The fifth leaf from the bottom was broken. Does anyone know how I can get a replacement? I like to keep the car original. Also does anyone have any advice on what ball joints to purchase for the front end? Thanks for your anticipated help........
No one makes repro spring leaves with the correct end treatment. If you want
to keep your spring looking original, I recommend tracking down a good used spring and either use the one leaf you need or replace your entire spring if you
can find one that has looks in better shape than yours. Every few weeks one shows up on e-bay. For used springs you can also check with Michael at America's Finest Corvettes (1-888-318-3883) or with Pacific Corvettte in Puyallup (800-228-2857). I know of several people who have bought used spring from one or the other.
Finally, what year car do you have and is your spring a 7-leaf, 9-leaf or a 10-leaf unit? There are a number of variations thru the years, so make sure you specify the correct spring with you talk with vendors.
Just make sure to tell them that you want a mid-year or 68-vintage leaf with the correct taper rolled end treatment. Later GM springs from the mid to late 70's seemed to lack some of the subtle workmanship of the earlier springs.
Just to let you know, Pacific Corvette had the fifth leaf and is shiping it to me today. I told them I needed the spring leaf for a 68 9 leaf spring. Thanks again for your help.
