    eBay Stumpers

There are two "Corvette" items for sale on eBay right now that have me stumped. I can't figure out exactly what they really are.

Item 1811933720 looks like a '63 FI air cleaner adapter, but it only has one front vent tube connection. I believe that even the pilot line FI cars had two front vent tubes.

Item 1811756703 appears to be a '63-4 grill until you look for the front bumper bracket openings and count the number of vertical supports for the grill bars.

Does anyone recognize these parts as GM assembly line items?

    Re: eBay Stumpers

I have seen several grills like the one on Ebay on cars that had the bumpers removed. I have also seen the same item called a "Grand Sport" grill. I have no idea where the parts originated, but have seen several of them in use.

Jerry, if you look closely at the adapter, in front of the elbow there appears to be a hole where the second elbow should be.

        Puzzling auction description

Bill, I just can't see a hole. However, I do see a reflection of one mounting tab.

The text description has me scratching my head. The seller says: "This adapter has no hose fitting for the breather assembly so it's meant to be used with a downdraft engine breather". Is he talking about using a ventilated oil fill cap on a fuel injected '63 engine? I guess that would work, but I never sausage a thing.

        Have you?

No, I believe he is diferentiating it from the '64-5 that were equipped with the large diameter tube from the road draft outlet. Look again, I don't think you are seeing a reflection (maybe I'm wrong) but it looks like a plugged hole to me, next to the existing hole and toward the viewer. All '63 used the closed cap system.

            I see what you mean

I thought that was a reflection of the one tube that is there.

I e-mailed the seller for more information on the "downdraft engine breather" system. He's selling a bunch of FI stuff from his '64.

Maybe the factory rear breather hose fitting was very skillfully removed and covered? I don't know...

              Modified stock adapter

The seller explained in an e-mail that the stock breather fitting hole has been filled with metal. I assume that this adapter once had the '64-5 type large tube to the rear block vent hole.
