    C1 - Windshield Assembly

Hello Gang: Well... as usual, I come before you with a question. I began re-assembling my windshield with new rubber installed; for some reason, I chose not to open the good book first (ST-12); I got the top channel and top trim and two side cast pieces assembled first then installed them over the rubber, a little glass cleaner for lube here and there, all set. Now, I try to install the bottom chanel and trim piece as a unit (with the back-up tapped plates in place), I have it close but not quite right, and the tapped plates have slipped. Rather than bang my head on the bench, I trach for the book and low and behold, I've done it wrong (big surprize there!!!). It says to assemble the bottom assembly (complete with trim) first, then the sides, then the chanel alone, then the top trim. Before I take it all appart, any thoughts before I take it all apart again??? My better judgement says start over, but if anyone has tried it by the book and had trouble... I know... start over!
    Thanks!!!
    Jim

    Jim--
My experience is start over, as per the book (about three more times) and you eventually will get it assembled. Be careful! They break easily!

I tried it your way too, then I went back and did it right. The only other thing i can suggest is that if you can assemble the top molding and channel as an assembly, it may go easier. I did mine like that at first, but I had to take the molding back off to fix some threads for a visor. I think it is easier if you can get it to go together all at once. You have to sort of spring the molding over the side post ends.

I thought I could attach the bottom molding after the assembly was back on the car. HUGE MISTAKE!!! Had to take the whole thing back off and start over. Made for a long Sunday afternoon.

Perfect timing for this post. I'm in process of doing it wrong too.
        Thanks

Took it appart and did it per the book, worked well, but the top trim and side cast psc do not line up perfevtly. I was able to install the trim and top chanel in one piece, and that may have been my mistake. Any thoughts??

I don't think you can do it any other way can you? Don't both the top channel/trim and bottom channel/trim have to be installed as one piece?
I haven't found a way to put the trim on after the channel is installed on the glass & seal.
