    Re: Stainless Steel

I'm thinking that my whole problem with fit is in the final section that runs through the tunnel. I believe there is slightly too much bend inboard which is throwing it off. I can feel it rubbing the tunnel wall. Would you think there a way a muffler shop could safely "unbend" one of the bends by about 1/2"?

        Re: Stainless Steel

        Bob -

Any decent muffler shop has a hydraulic bender with lots of dies, and can do just about anything to a pipe; on other project cars/street rods I've built, I've used templates made from super-duty coathanger wire and taken straight pipe sections with the wire template to a local shop and had them bend the pipe to match the wire with excellent results. Cutting you can do at home - bending is another issue.

            Works both ways...

If it's hotter inside the pipe than outside, the heat will radiate out of a black pipe better than a silver pipe. That's why Corvette heat insulation has the silver wrap on it, instead of black. Ever use a "space blanket"? paper thin, but very effective because of the foil layer.

                That's What I Said.

Works both ways. Black bodies absorb and emit heat more efficiently than silver bodies.

                Dale.

Check out Tech Line Coatings, they have ceramic coating to retain or disperse heat, interesting product.
