3186974 Shock Application Question?

I am asking for help in determining the application of the listed Delco shock.

3186974 it looks to be a rear shock that is dated 137 day of 1966. the two letter sticker shows a FU.

General Motors part number 3186974 is actually a front shock. It was the "second design" shock originally used on 63-66 series 10 and 20 Chevrolet light trucks with 4 wheel drive.

Sorry I couldn't tell you that it was a rare and valuable early Corvette piece.

I should also have mentioned that this shock was available in service as well as production. However, since the shocks you refer to have a June, 1966 Julian date code and have the "broadcast code" sticker(which is only used on production shocks), they must have been originally installed on a late-build 1966 Chevrolet series 10 or 20 truck with 4-wheel drive. Not that this info probably matters much to you, but for whatever it's worth.

Joe,

Just a minor point: I have seen service replacement shocks with the broadcast code label on them. Maybe they were production overruns that were packaged for service sale, but I was surprised to see the tags on service replacement shocks.

The shocks listed above did have a broadcast code and they were never on a truck.

The only Chevrolet application that I can find for these shocks is the truck application that I mentioned previously. I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that they were used in that application, although they could also have been used on some other non-Chevrolet GM application. They were not used in any Corvette application through at least 1966; I did not check for more recent apps since your shocks are dated in 1966 and, obviously, these particular shocks couldn't have equipped a vehicle made after that time.

Incidentally, if you don't know what they're for, how do you know that they were never on a truck?
