When I tear out the carpet in my '56, do I need to replace the underlayment also? If so, what is the best product for that purpose? I have seen sound deadeners but it seems as though they will provide too much loft. Any suggestions? ps: if anyone has a particular product recommendation, feel free to email me please!! Steve

Re: '56 Carpet Query!
steve,
The carpet that you purchase should have a foam rubber backing. Once glued and screwed into place that is all they had originally. I have seen one quarter inch closed cell foam insulation under some restorations?? This material works well to stop noise and heat and is virtually undetectable.
