my friend has a 66 that has 5 tabs on top and bottom that are there to bolt the grill to the top and bottom middle have no match to a 66 grill, on my 67 it only has the tabs top and bottom middle did gm make body panels with the capability of matching like a late 66 grill and also fitting a 67 grill I know this is a little thing but it is curious because it would be so easy to just remove the unneeded tabs if you were custom fitting ?
Gil, Appears that your friend has a '63 style upper valance. Suggest you look at the inside lower outer valance panels for raise boss areas with holes for mounting 63-64 grills. Your car's single tab is correct.
