My '76 has a body build date "D24" which the books tell me is 11/24/75. The numbers stamped on the block are correct and match the vin however most of the major components have date codes in the Jan-Feb '76 time frame. The serial # is 23848 which was assigned in Feb '76. I have no evidence tha the car is anything but original but I thought the body build date was supposed to be preceeded by all other date codes. Is this so? Thanks in advance.

The only reason that I can think of for the date "discepancy" that you describe is the possibility that, for one reason or another, your body did not follow the normal sequence from body build to the final assembly line. Most likely, there was some problem with the body or paint that required repair, so the body was taken off the body line. After repairs were completed, it was sequenced back into the final assembly line and assigned a VIN appropriate for its final assembly.
I realize that 2-1/2 or 3 months seems like a long time for this to occur. However, from what I understand, once a component like a body went "off-line", it was usually a low priority. Assembly plants were geared up for production line operation. Off-line "stragglers", especially if there was a difficult-to-repair problem, had to wait for individual attention.
