When replacing the inner fender wells with press moulded on my 1969 should the replacements be painted semigloss black or be left natural? Did the factory actually paint the engine compartment or leave it the natural color of the glass itself?

Re: !969 Inner fender skirt painting
Engine compartment was painted. I would lightly scuff the panels with a scotch brite pad so you DO NOT remove the patteren in the glass. Give it a coat of self-etching primer and paint the panel's with John Deere Blitz Black. You can buy that in a spray can at you John Deere dealer. This is just one way of doing it. john- Top

Re: !969 Inner fender skirt painting
The engine comp. was painted semi-gloss black with no primer. Very little, if any paint got up under the hood surround area. Good black-out painting shows bare glass in those areas as the paint job was very quickly done.- Top

My '67 has red oxide primer on the firewall under the blackout, which I believe to be original.- Top

Re: !969 Inner fender skirt /Primer
The cars engine compartment gets overspray of body color. You can see it in various places like the hood latch studs etc. The primer seen is overspray as well from the body painting not the black-out painting. In other words the whole engine compartment is not primered and then blacked out. There is very little blackout down low on the horizontal surfaces and behind the wiper motor as well as up high under the hood surround where it "shadows the inner fenders. All the brackets for the wiring harnesses and vacuum hoses were installed before the black-out.- Top

Re: !969 Inner fender skirt /Primer
What is exactly meant by black-out and does this also apply to the fender wells and underside body? I was planning on using a urthane semi-gloss to gain durability. Some small repairs had to be made in the battery box area and in the floorboard. Thus some color is required. I appreciate the help.- Top
