metal strip w/numbers attached to seat springs??

I am in the process of taking my seats apart for recovering. When I flipped the seat over the springs had a metal strip 2-3 inches long with the # sc-3666415-4 n it, the seat back also had a strip with #sc3863371-2 on it. The strip between the springs and the burlap.
Does anyone know what these are.
    Thanks in advance.

    Larry -

Not positive, but most likely the old detail GM part number for the spring units themselves.

        Larry and John-----

Yes, that's what they are; the part numbers for the seat frame and spring unit. The seat bottom had one part number and the seat back another.

In the "old days" I think the seats were built up at the assembly plants in an off-line, assembly operation. Nowadays, the seats are delivered to the assembly plants as a complete unit by suppliers like Lear Corporation and Johnson Controls. So, I don't think that you'd find the tags with the GM part numbers on seat components anymore.
