66 Corvette windshield wiper motor removal

Now that the rolling chassis is finished, I started on my body and the engine compartment. I've removed the glove box per the repair manual instructions, but see that it is still difficult to get to the two left side screws that hold the motor to the firewall. Anybody have any tips on how to get them. Do you get the two left ones out from the drivers side?

    Thanks,
    Dave Kitch

The wiper motor can be removed without removing the instrument cluster IF you have small hands and are very limber. I found it easiest to remove the center instrument cluster and then remove the left most nut holding the wiper motor on. This gave me the opportunity to also change some bulbs on the cluster and clean things up.

        Gary,

Actually, you mean left most screw or small bolt , not nut. I was going to pull the cluster anyways and I guess this is as good a time as any.

The two leftmost screws are removable from the glove box compartment. Using a ratchet wrench makes it much easier.

Yes the left most screws are removable from the glove box, but in my post I said that in my limited experience I found it far easier to remove the instrument cluster. BTW, I was looking for an excuse to pull the cluster anyhow. I clearly remember (this was about eight years ago) that the cluster was very easy to pull.

                    Gary/ronnie,

I'm using a 1/4 drive wratchet/socket. Like Gary says, you have to have very small hands and be quite limber to get to these two left most screws with the cluster in place.

I tried every ratchet/socket combo, but the ratched wrench has very small "clicks" and you don't have to do as much hand movement.
