    Tub tire size

I've finally got all the parts together to put my spare tire tub back in my 66. I'm trying to fit a 205/75-15 mounted on a knockoff up in the tub. it seems to be tight. Does anyone know if this will work? It fit in the tub when it was off the ground, so diameter is not the problem.

    Re: Tub Bolts

There are longer front bolts for the KO wheels.

            Hum....

tire tub is/was 'rigid' in terms of circumference acceptance. Just because a given tire is 'rated' at Y x Z size doesn't mean there's a fixed tolerance between mfgrs and/or DOT on height/width geometry specifics..... They 'fit' into an industry standard acceptance sphere of profile which can/does change dramatically from year to year and mfgr to mfgr.

Seeing as you're showing the car at this Saturday's Chapter meet, it appears you might want to use a bigger shoehorn on that new tire. Or contact your local 'mates' for help. I can fetch you a non-DOT 675x15 new in wrapper (NOT original issue to GM final assy) that will fit just fine for CHEAP $$$.

But, if you really want a non-OEM tire that matches your other current day radials, you'll probably have to go back to the tire vendor that sold you the rubber and have him sort inventory until he can come up with five 205 radials that will mount, work AND fit the tire tub! See you on Saturday....
