Am trying to identify an engine block #3896948 found in a 1959 Corvette. We know it's not original. Where does it really belong to? Please Help; the date is H196. Thanks in advance.

Re: Engine Block Identify?
Stubby, According to the info that I have on hand, the casting number that you have is for a 283 block used in Chevrolet Chevelle and light truck models. Your casting date I indicates a month of June(H) with the date (19) of the year 66(6). This block will fit for your application, unfortunately it is incorrect for numbers use. Hope this helps, Eric- Top

Re; Date stamp on engine
Hello Jack, As I had stated, using the information that I have available, I put the engine fitment to the model and year that I had posted earlier. I have seen date codes use the letter H for June however, after re-checking, this is a transmission code application. Sorry for the month error as I went one page to far in my notes.
