    Noisy T-10 in a 1962

My 62 runs fine with a restored T-10. What bothers me is the noise of the gear box when I drive the car. Does anyone have experience with similar problem and how to lower the noise level.

    Thanks, Martin

You should not hear any noise from a good T-10. Maybe if you had an M-22 rock crusher.
Is the noise on acceleration, deceleration, in the lower gears or in fourth?

It appears especially in 1st and 2nd gear, and equally when accelerting and decelerating.

My suspicion is that a bearing is spalling. If the noise decreases from first to third and then virtually disappears in fourth, it's likely a bearing as there is more load on them when torque is transmitted through the countershaft.

Fourth is direct drive and torque is transmitted directily through the input/mainshaft. The countershaft is just idling and all the bearings have minimum load.

The T-10s have a bit of gear whine in first through third, but if it is getting noticably louder, it's time to disassemble the box for a checkout. I understand parts are scarce, but I figure the bearings are probably still readily available.

Similar symptons occured on my SWC at about 40K miles, circa 1966. New bearings did the trick.
