I have a ground strap which I believe should be attached at the drivers side rear engine bolt and to the outer steering column plate screw. Am I correct?

Re: C1 Ground
Paul,
There is a ground strap on 56s and, possible, some 57s that goes from the rearmost intake manifold bolt on the driver's side to the firewall and is anchored under a nut that goes on a bolt that holds the vent bracket inside the vehicle. This strap is shown in Adams' restoration manual under the RPO section for the radio, although the picture is not trhat great. Steve- Top

Re: C1 Ground-Steve
Steve,
I believe this ground (black with white tracer) should be attached to one of the Phillips head valve cover screws. Page 160 shows it attached to the top rear valve cover screw (hard to see) and on page 166 the ground is attached to the bottom rear Phillips. I've seen a majority attatched to the top rear. Re: C1 Ground-Steve
Jim,
We may be talking about different grounds. I was referring to the braided copper ground. It's shown on page 155 of Adams' resto guide. In a senior moment, I said it was between the firewall and the intake bolt, when, actually, it's shown between the firewall stud and the pinch bolt that locks the accelerator arm to the accelerator shaft. I'm now curious, where does the other end of the black w/white tracer ground go? It is clearly shown in those two photos, but I don't have that wire on my 56. Steve- Top

Re: C1 Ground-Steve
I could never find the black/white tracer wire in the A.I.M. either, but you can see it in the photo at the top of page 124 in Noland's book, and again in the photo on page 160; it also shows on the wiring diagram. It comes out of the main wire harness just forward of the hood latch, adjacent to the pigtail that goes to the dimmer switch; it's the ground for the horns, the light switch, courtesy lights, turn signals, high-beam indicator, and many other things, and its ring terminal goes under the inboard rear valve cover bolt.
The ground that goes to the stud protruding through the firewall from the cowl vent brace is from the wiper motor; this stud also carried the ground from the accelerator lever pinch bolt until that arrangement was changed on 57's at about #2850 to a braided strap from the accelerator lever to the left rear intake manifold bolt (which also attached the L.H. ignition shield support).- Top

Re: C1 Ground-Steve
John, Thanks for the info. At least I'll know what to look for. I have a new Lectric Limited harness for the car and, apparently, that wire will be there. My old harness (original) didn't have that ground - but it was a mess, so it's hard to tell what had been cut out. Steve- Top
