1967 Seat Tracks / Seat backs

My seat tracks have been painted black. The 67 Judging Manual calls for a grey oxide. Has anyone found a product with the right shade to duplicate this. It was suggested that I use the Quanta shock grey. Is this the correct shade or is it lighter as the Krylon product smoke grey. Any other suggestions?
Has anyone had any luck finding a corect 67 reproduction seat back. The one's I have seen fall short on the bottom where it curls in, and the plastic doesn't seem to be as thick.
    Thanks in advance.

Re: 1967 Seat Tracks / Seat backs

I have the same situation with my seat tracks (they are painted black) I hesitate to take them a part and have them plated. There is a plating company near me that does auto parts and they have a grey oxide plate that I think would work well. I have seen original tracks when judging and if you paint them expect the point deduct. You really only can see the portion that bolts to the floor and 1 -3 inches more under the seat. I am thinking of stripping the old paint and soaking (the ends) them in Dr. Jenkins rust remover. Timing is critical but a phosphate coating forms that is very close to the color desired and does not look like paint. Then I will clear coat satin to preserve. I finished my seats last winter and used Paragon's seat backs (they carry Backs made Of HPCE material which was exactly like my original). One thing to note also for judging is that the seat is tilted forward and a hand is often slid along the inside bottom portion of the seat back. Original backs has little ticks of plastic (about 6) that could be felt. If you need black paragons are perfect otherwise take a sodering iron and make these ticks so they will be felt when judged.

Zachary, not to sound to stupid, but what is the finish of the seat tracks under the black paint? I ask this because I picked up a set of aluminum valve covers for my 66, and they were painted flat black. I bought them hesitantly and paid accordingly but when I stripped the paint off, I found a set of near perfect valve covers. Before you start to repaint something, ensure that the desired appearance isn't already there.
