just painted my 66 convertible back to the correct laguna blue, after putting the doors back on with the new paint job you could see that the crest on the door was just off alignment of the crest on the front and rear panels on both sides. took the doors off again and lined up the crests but now the window and the convertible top have bigger gaps than before on both sides, i read about the door adjustments in the 66 corvette chassis service manual and it talks about shims and proper adjustment that are a little above my skill level. the question is" am i wasting my time trying to line up a 36 year old fiberglass car or is there someone with experience that could get the doors to line up well and have them open and close solidly and have the windows close properly ?" thanks joe tassoni

Re: 66 door alignments
The shims are basically for in and out adjustment at the top and bottom of the door. There is little up and down although you can make it move some, usually enough to get it high enough. You will have to decide which way it needs to go. This should have been checked out and body adjustments done before painting, so you will probably have to live with some mismatch. Never worry much though as they were not very good from the factory anyway. There are basically six points to match. Top, middle, and bottom of each end of the door. Many times you can line up five points and one will be considerably off. This proves that they were not perfect.- Top
