    '66 BB smog system

Finally rounded-up 99% of the parts for a date-correct smog system for my '66 BB A/C AIR coupe. Have the pump, original hoses, original trees and original dated clamps. Also able to find the correct cast iron mounting bracket.

One more peice to go: need the smog pump adjusting brace. Can anyone tell me if the "correct" adjusting brace for the '66 BB is common to other GM models and years? The judging manual is very vague when it comes to this info - which may be a good thing!

And finally, any suggestions or secrets for removing the plugs from the exhaust manifold (where the trees are inserted)? They're pretty-well rusted in place after 40 years...

    Thanks in advance-
    Dan

        Dan------

For 1966 Corvettes with L-36 and AIR, there were 2 adjusting braces which may have been used in PRODUCTION. The first was GM #3882833. This brace was used for cars without power steering and was NEVER available in SERVICE.

The second was GM #3886109 and this was used for all 1966 Corvette L-36 with power steering. I believe that it was also used in PRODUCTION for some or all L-36 without power steering. It was also used for all 1967 Corvette big block with AIR except those with air conditioning. 1967 Corvette big block with A/C used brace GM #3894368.

The GM #3886109 brace was the brace available in SERVICE for all 1966 Corvettes with L-36 and all 1967 Corvettes with big block and K-19 except A/C. The GM #3886109 brace was discontinued in May, 1973 and replaced, for SERVICE, by the GM #3894368 brace originally used in PRODUCTION for 1967 big blocks with A/C. Unfortunately, the GM #3894368 brace was discontinued about the same time, apparently when GMSPO inventory was exhausted.

All of the above-listed AIR pump adjusting braces, GM #3882833, GM #3886109, and GM #3894368 were Corvette-only pieces and had no other applications that I can find.
