61 temp guage sensor wire clips-painted?

The judging guide states the 61 temp guage sensor wire clips were black oxide on aluminum valve cover engines. Did the clips receive orange paint, therefore applied at Flint, or were that attached after shipment and not painted?

They weren't painted and I doubt that they were black oxide either. This location doesn't logically call for such a finish. As I recall, zinc plate was used. BUT do as the TRM & JG says in order to receive an award. The prior version of the TRM & JG avoids comments regarding finish.

I'm with Dale - they were zinc-plated, but if the TM&JG says oxide.... well, you know how that goes.

During review by the revision team, Rev. Mike Ernst suggested we put the notation in about the finish on the clips being black oxide. Thus it was done at his suggestion.

At Last

I found the part number for late 60 through 1962. It's 367701 AND is supplied in black oxide! I havent been able to find the part number for 1956-60E but it's a different clip and is zinc plated. (bright). If anyone can help with the part number please e-mail me.
