There is a thread on Teak Steering Wheels further down the page from Monday, March 18th, where I quoted from an article in the latest issue of "Vette Vues" that said these wheels are being produced today from the original Herman Miller Clock tooling by Classic Auto Woodcrafters of Doylestown, Ohio. It turns out that this company is actually "Teak Freaks", who we all know about from their ads in the "Driveline". I have no idea why "Vette Vues" didn't point this out in the article, but it clarifies where the "good stuff" comes from, in case nobody could find a phone listing for "Classic Auto Woodcrafters".

Re: Teak Steering Wheel Update
John,
If memory serves me (and with every passing day it does so, less and less)"Teak Freaks" was originally used as a 'nickname' for the company doing the teak wheel repros. I think their ads used to show the full name (which I believe, might have been Classic Auto Woodcrafters), with "The Teak Freaks" in quotation marks. It may be that they became best know by the latter moniker and have dropped the more formal one. Just a thought...

I HATE GM and I HATE teak wheels.
Because my '69 doesn't have the tilt column and being 6'2" I can't even drive around with the standard plastic wheel with out my elbows sticking in my gut.
()&&^$$^_&*%^$%&*(%&*...that's for the rocket scientists who decided to sell the car with a standard column.
In the meantime, I REALLY want a quality wood wheel - I'll put the original on when I have the car seriously judged - probably 2222. I'm going gaga over the Nardi with it's 1" dish, vs 3" with the original wheels. Anyone know off hand if Nardi makes an appropriate hub adapter - I haven't checked it out yet. Right now I have an inexpensive 14" leather covered wheel with a 1" dish which works ok - clears the turn signal lever by just enough (for me, anyway).- Top

Re: I HATE GM and I HATE teak wheels.
Lonnie,
I can't speak for the 69 model, but the mid years all had adjustable steering columns (in and out) by loosening a clamp on the shaft. I don't know how much additional room this might give you, but it might help a little. Good luck.
