65 intake to carb gasket help

My 65 has the correct intake 44461(casting # correct in spec guidefor 327/350) and a non original holly 4 barrel. The intake has 2 round holes and one oblong hole opposite of it. The gasket that was on it matched the intake and was a metal and paper gasket, but the replacement shows to have 4 seperate holes and a narrow heat slot. The 66/67 350 horse looks to be like the one that came off. Page 80 in Dr. Rebuild.
Which one would be correct to go back with since there is nothing for the gasket to contact if I use the 4 hole gasket. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

You didn't say what type of replacement carb you have. If it is the orginal stye, I would match it to the intake, two holes with one oblong, with heat opening. You can get this gasket for about $3.00 at NAPA Auto Parts. You can also get the original style air cleaner filter from them, cheap. Just tell them 327 with Holley. I can get you the part numbers if you need them.

I have not been able to find locally the holly carb is a 4 barrel with 4 holes so it does not match the carb because of the oblong hole on the intake.
shold carb exactly match the intake?

The intake with the oblong hole and the gasket with the oblong hole are to be matched. They did not make the carb with an oblong hole. It had 4 round holes. Your 1965 carb should be R2818A Model 4150 Holley GM part number 3849804. Check e-bay. They are on that site often. Multiple examples. Maybe while you are there you should get the matching intake:
3844461 very common on e-bay. Check the casting date on you intake as well as the e-bay intakes. Or use the "Goggle" search engine and insert the above numbers for carb or intake. You will be amazed at what that thing can find. I was astounded. I could find Corvette parts faster than the guy at the parts counter. And he tends to use the phrase "Discontinued
in 1985" too often for me!

                Worse

when the counterman says, "That PN's no good." As if, the original part and all traces of it were erased from history for all time!!!!! I know these guys are in a hurry to sell what they've got and not everything was moved into today's on-line system, but I go mildly bezerk when I hear a P/N is 'no good'. Heck, I even handed one of these dudes a copy of the actual GM drawing and asked to explain how in (*& it happened to exist if the the PN was 'no good'....
