    62 hood hardware

I am wondering what type of cadmium plating is correct for the femaale and male hood hardware on my 62. Judging manual says cad with a gold hue, with overspray. Does that mean Gold cad or silver cad. Were the male pins and plates the same.

    Thanks Fred

    Re: 62 hood hardware

American Testing Labs analyzed six samples of C1 hood latches both male & female and found they were zonc plated. The production latches were oil dipped for shelf life while the service replacements were zinc dichromated for shelf life.

The latches were NOT degreased at St. Louis. They were installed before exterior paint. Exterior color overspray is found on unmolested samples with egshell blackout painted heavily on top of that. The paint did not adhere well to the oil and as a result flaked off in spots with age. New Corvettes would show completely blacked-out finish (male & female). The male plates may show evidence of having been moved for adjustment purposes.

At times during C1 production the service replacement parts were used to cover shortages in supply. Therefore latches appearing golden in color (zinc dicromate) would have appeared. Again, a NEW Corvette would have been completely painted in this area with eggshell blackout.
