    59 carpeting question

THE JUDGING MANUAL STATES THAT ALTHOUGH DAYTON WEAVE WAS USUALLY USED IN 1959 CARPETS, THERE ARE RANDOM EXAMPLES OF SALT AND PEPPER. I PREFER SALT AND PEPPER BUT WILL I LOSE POINTS AT NCRS MEET IF I INSTALL? IS THERE ANY CORRELLATION BETWEEN DATE OF MANUFACTURE AND CARPET USE? CAR IS SER #J59S108083 WHICH I BELIEVE IS FIRST WEEK OF JUNE. MANUAL ALSO MENTIONS 4 CHROME HOLD-DOWN SCREWS ON THE INSIDE CORNERS. I CAN NOT FIND THESE HOLES IN FLOORBOARDS. WHERE ARE THEY? CAN ANYONE VOUCH FOR AUTHENTICITY OF ROMEO ENGINEERING CARPETS? THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

    Romeo Engineering Carpet

When I was looking to buy carpets for my 1970 black deluxe interior, I chose Romeo Engineering because their heel pad was the best reproduction compared to my original pads, their willingness to work with me, and their better value. Several other companies had good reproduction carpet to the deluxe carpet but their repro heel pads were poor reproductions. In the end, RE sewed in my original heel pads with the correct color threads (black with gray bob-in). I was quite pleased with the carpets for my 70. Their prices were lower than others and included the carpet that goes on the doors with black vinyl sewed on to these pieces (other suppliers charged an additional ~$25 for these door carpets).

Before I made the plunge, I asked all the carpet companies to send a sample of their carpet and heel pads so I could compare them with my original. RE didn't even charge me for their heel pad sample while others did. You may want to at least check out each supplier's merchandise in this manner before making your purchase.

      Re: Romeo Engineering Carpet

I also recently bought carpet from Romeo Engineering for my 69. They were willing to make the carpet for me "per the NCRS Judging Manual". They sewed the bindings in the correct places, and used the proper "tabs" on the rear bulkhead. I was very pleased with the carpet. Also, the heel pad, as stated above, is right on the money with the proper logo. For my 69, Romeo made a "100%" NCRS correct carpet. Chuck Gongloff
