61 exhaust heat spacer-painted?

Is the heat spacer on a 61 painted chevy orange, or remain raw cast? The assembly line pictures I've observed show the manifolds painted with no sigh of the spacers? This makes me assume they were attached later during exhaust system final assembly and after shipping.
Also, should the water pump main shaft have any masking marks, or painted entirely orange?

The heat riser valve (or spacer on an F.I. car) was installed later on the Chassis line with the exhaust system, and is not painted. The water pump shaft was covered with a cardboard tube when the engine was painted at Flint Engine.

Exhaust riser or spacer was installed at St. Louis. and therefore should be raw cast gray iron.

Noland Adams has the masking specs for flint engine painting and if I recall correctly, the start of the shaft as well as the flange were masked.
