1965 Right Side Radio Side Panel

Here's another question about screw holes in interior panels - I just want to make sure this car is "right" before I start painting interior components.

My right (passenger) side radio side panel has six small holes in addition to the rectangular air outlet and the two 1/4" mounting holes. Two are 1/8" diameter, and another group of four are about 3/16" dia.

These holes are all nicely done, and appear to be original. Are they supposed to be there, or should I fill them before I paint.

One more thought--- is it necessary to prime before I spray on the Krylon Semi Flat Black. I know that we are looking for the "texture" of the composite to show through.

    Thanks in advance.

Whether or not you prime the surface first, let me pass this along. I was cleaning up the interior of my 66 driver and decided to paint the left and right panels. One of them came out looking brand new, the other with tons of "fish eye". I stripped the paint and tried it a couple of more times. Finally, I stripped the paint and used a cleaner designed to remove oils and contamination. These prep solutions are available at most auto paint stores and do work well. I had to clean my left panel two or three times, each time using a new, clean cloth. Once I did that the panel took paint quite well.

I had the same problem as Gary with one of my 65 side panels. It's probably due to some previous use of a silicone-containing interior dressing (Armorall?). While I was able to correct my problem by re-sanding and careful cleaning with detergent and water, followed by Krylon primer before painting, I think the use of a proper degreasing agent would be better.

Fish eye is because some owners want to use a silicone based product like ArmorAll or STP son-of-a-gun. Neither one is allowed near my shop. It can take several applications of PrepSol to remove it enough for painting.
