    Alternator Part Number 1105 022Y

I removed the following Delco-Remy alternator from my '71 small block w/AC (1105 022Y, 73A and a build date of 4233). I am trying to determine what car this alternator belongs too and determine the build date, I assume its for a '74, but is 233 the Julian Date?

As I have finally found the correct 1100544 61A for my car and replaced.

The alternator works great I just want to understand what I have and where it belongs so I could make it available to someone else.

This is another "oddball" alternator part number. I can find no application for it among any GM car or truck. Also, there is no record of the part number in the current GM parts system or other records going back to, at least, 1963. I think that this part number is about a 1984 or 85 vintage issue, though. It could also be an alternator originally used for some non-GM application as many Delco-Remy alternators were/are.

I'll never understand why GM had this plethora of alternator (and starter) part numbers. The number of internal parts which were used was really quite limited. So, even if you were to "mix-and-match" these components in just about every conceiveable combination, there just wouldn't be that many different configurations produced.

Rebuilders "boil it all down" to the essentials, though. In their core-stocks, I think that the numbers on the case and the original applications mean little or nothing.
