My 66 roadster has a fuel gauge that only seems to work on the "top" one quarter of the gauge. When full, the gauge reads full. When empty, the gauge reads 3/4 full. I manually moved the float up and down in the tank and it seems to have full travel. Before I even think about changing the sending unit, are there any other troubleshooting steps that I should take?

Re: Fuel Gauge
Have you or anyone else cleaned the face of your gas gauge? Sometimes, when cleaning the gauge face, the indicator needle gets moved and that can influence how the gauge reads.- Top

Re: Fuel Gauge
Other threads in the archieves on this subject. Mid-year gas gauge/sender is UNIQUE as it's implemented in a Whetstone bridge circuit topology (unlike earlier and later Corvettes). You should find a nice diagnostic chart in your Chassis Service Manual detailing action(s) to take based on gauge symptoms. CRITICAL to the operation of this system is the 'dual' ground (at dash/instrument cluster AND at tank/sender) as this forms the 'guts' of the Whetstone bridge.- Top
