Corvette Multibooting on one Hard Drive

Who has partitioned their Hard Drive? Using MS-DOS commands.

I want to run Win 3:11, Win 98, Win 2000 and maybe Win XP one 40 gig basic hard drive –(the ones HP uses with their desktops.). If you partition the HD, you can do it. That is important if you have some old programs you wish to run on today’s faster desktops.

I did it according to the info on Microsoft web site, but I know think all the syntax and order of commands was not 100 percent “correct”. I only have two partitions showing up: one 2 gig (drive C) and another 12 gig (drive D) – where are the other 26 gig hiding?

Will trade valuable Corvette artifacts, information, camaraderie for assistance. Entertain with fine cooking. Allow private examination of my Woody collection.

PS wait till you see my new office two 15” NEC LCD flat screens each with a 40 gig HD and a 32” flat screen Sony.

Not really interested in seeing your woody but one thing you have to worry about is the hard disk driver you are using. The default DOS drivers often times will result in formats much less than the disk's capacity. You should pop the cover on your computer and find out what manufacturer/model of hard disk you have in there. Report back or e-mail me offline.

Geoffrey - why not just use PowerQuest's Partitionmagic? A far easier and better way to fly. I may even have an old version laying around if you want it for the shipping.....Craig

With the DOS commands run FDISK and you'll be able to see where all the hard disk has been allocated. You'll want to make some extended partitions, and end up with the 4 or 5 you desire. When loading in your operating systems, it is imperative to begin with the oldest OS first (3.1 then 95 then 98 and finish with XP) The partition for 3.1 should be FAT, for 95 use FAT 32, 98 FAT 32 , ME FAT32, 2000 and XP use FAT 32. Dont use NTFS for 2000 or XP unless you have security concerns, because NTFS only will allow 2000 or XP to use that file.
