Depending on who you ask, '55 & '56 engines were painted Chevrolet Red, OR, there was no such thing, all Chevy V8's were Chevrolet Orange from day one. What's the deal here? Should be easy to prove. I could've proved it myself a few years ago, there was a big yard in my area, now closed, which had Chevy's right back to the '40's. Or was this a case of "Chevy specified red, but they used whatever they had" kind of thing? There's got to be some unrestored 55-6 cars out there, especially passenger cars, which would have been painted the same color as 'Vette engines. Anyway, what gives? Red, orange, or either?

1955 Chevys were Chevy Orange . In 56 they went to a Red colour . 57s went back to Orange except early 265 Passenger car engines and then they were Yellow. BOB

Dave, I can't speak to 55s and 57s, but I can tell you that the block in my 56 was red - not Chevy orange.Comment
