Pulling front main bearing on warner manual trans.
Pulling front main bearing on warner manual trans.
he front main bearing does not want to move. I made a longer regular puller out of 1/4" strap; but does not want to move. I want to proceed cautiosly, so thought I'd ask first.the factory manual shows a clamping puller arond the bearing. Is there another way; or how much, and where do I find a suitable puller?

Assuming the snap ring has been removed, you can get a tool that will cup the bearing in the area between the rear of the bearing and the gear teeth, and using that tool as the stationary surface, use a press from the pilot shaft and it will come right off. You can buy one inexpensively, or a parts store can generally rent you one.

If you pull the pin out of the cluster. it will drop down enough to clear the bearing diameter and you can push the bearing bach into the case by removing the locating ring. a better alternative if you still have it in the case, is just to pull off the snap ring and set the case and input as an assembly up in the press and push the shaft out that way. I'm assuming you ahve already pulled apart the case and tailhousing.

Yes the tailhousing and front retainer are off. I was just getting ready to investigate just pushing the whole assembly through. The manual said you had to do it this way to clearance from the other gear and shaft assembly. However if I can pull the idler shaft, this might get the gears out of the way enough to push it through. Now watch the bearing will hang on the case next! my normal luck.
