    Heater hose clamps 68

The assembly manual for 68 327 with A/C shows different hose clamps than the NCRS 68-69 Tech info manual&Judging guide. The assembly manual shows spring ring clamps for the water shutoff valve. The Judging guide page 63 says the clamps on the water shutoff should be Tower style.
    Which is correct?

Also, the assembly manual shows a "nipple", part no. 3393349 in the 5/8 in. line between the fender skirt clamp and the shutoff valve. Anyone know what it is or what it is for? Any general recommendations on researching old GM part numbers?
    Thanks,

I did a little more research and you are correct. An in-line nipple was used in the heater hose adjacent to the water valve. This piece was GM #3393349. It was used ONLY for 1968 Corvettes with 327 and A/C and it may not have been used throughout 1968 PRODUCTION. Strangely, this is a group 7.447 part (components for air shock systems).

Unfortunately, this part was discontinued without supercession in May, 1974. I know of no reproduction.

Heater hose clamps were Corbin round wire style for early '68 until March 12 1968. After that a swith was made to Wittek tower clamps.

Was the switch to Witek clamps applicable to all heater hose connections, or are you refering to the connections at the engine? It looks like a variety of clamp types may have been used, depending on dates, engine options, with or without A/C.

I would be most interested in any source of hard info on the subject.

Unfortunately, I almost centainly removed and discarded the original clamps back in about 1974, replacing them with new and "better" SS screw type! Also unfortunate, I don't remember what was where! At the time, originality wasn't a concern.

            Thanks for the input.
