    59 BATTERY HOLD DOWN

    I JUST BOUGHT A BATTERY HOLD DOWN FROM CORVETTE CENTRAL,IT IS CAD PLATED. WERE THE ORIGINALS PAINTED? WHAT COLOR? THANKS BILL

        John, I've got one of those gold colored ones too. Were the originals plated and then painted, or did CC just decide on their own to make them shiney?

            The originals were plain steel - the raw steel heat shield and hold-down were received separately and spot-welded together at St. Louis, then the assembly was washed, phosphated, and dip-primed (or flow-coated, same result). I assume the current repros are plated for corrosion resistance; I remember when I restored my '57 that the repro hold-down and the attached heat shield were plated - I primed and painted the unit black.
