    70gas tank

My 70bb had a new tank in it when I bought it.The problem is that appears to have a nipple,or vent,on the left hand side. The old tank[wich I have]does not.The vent is just plugged at this time.Is this tank for a car with a canister in the l/rear wheel well[charcoal canister]?If it is couldnt I just ad the canister and a vented
gas cap.My car is a driver so I am not concerned about points.

    Thanks Andy

It sounds like someone used a replacement tank designed for use with EEC. California 1970 models, as well as most later models were so-equipped.

Your best bet is to simply seal off the unused nipple connection on the left side of the tank. That will effectively convert the tank to the non-EEC configuration. You can seal off the nipple by crimping it closed and then applying a generous amount of epoxy to seal it.

There is no need to install EEC which would be practically impossible to do, anyway. That's an EXTREME, OVER-COMPLICATED "solution" to a very simple problem.

No matter what you do, you should continue to use a non-vented gas cap with this tank. The tank has an integral pressure-vacuum valve, so a vented cap is not necessary.

Joe.In the past after driving it seems that the tank has a lot of pressure in it.I am concerned that by crimpimg this off that it would be the weak point at wich fuel can escape under pressure.but if this is suction in the tank i would imagine the most harm done would be more air in the tank.Is this pressure or suction normal with a non vented cap?

Yes, it's very normal. Also, if your car does not have EEC, then it does not need the nipple. If you don't seal the nipple, fuel will slosh out of it.
