'62 Clutch Cross Shaft Rubber Bushing Install ??

Simple question............Does the bushing get pressed into the lever from the engine side or from the outboard side? The piece left on the old shaft was pressed from the engine side, but from the other jury-rigged parts I've encountered on this car, I don't trust the previous mechanic(s) know-how. Thanks for the help.
