    C1 rear springs paint

I'm not sure how to paint the rear springs - the JG says unpainted liners, but I have the impression that the springs received in-place a blackout coat which I would expect to soak into the liners. Also, the JG talks of end caps on the upper two liners while Dr. Rebuild provides caps on all three. So far, I have grey-primed the leaves. Recommendations?

        C1 rear spring paint

I've looked into this because I am about to recondition mine. I will be using the Paragon liners, since they are a perfect match for the fiber (cardboard) style originals on my car. My understanding is the short leaves were painted black, at the time of manufacture, and the eye leaf was silver. The springs were installed on the inverted chassis, which was blacked out with chassis paint before being turned right side up. This would result in the exposed portions of the liner being painted black, within the level of care of the painter. I imagine the silver leaf would also be almost entirely black. This would also, except in cases of extreme incompetence, result in the frame stencil being blacked out, which makes me wonder why people go to so much trouble to reapply them.

Dave- tell me more about the Paragon liners, maybe they are more like the fiberboard remnants (no cloth) that I pulled from these springs?
I'm wondering how realistic these cloth ones from Dr. R will be, and the judging response thereto.
Oh and adding to my question, I assume that the banding clips go on the underneath side? and the bands would be black (blackout) also?
Does any repro house have the (I think) correct (red-painted!) Scovil-stamped clips for the bands? Guess nobody will see that detail anyway...

                Al & Dave,
The original C-1 spring liners were fiberboard, about 0.08 thick, wrapped in a waxed coated greenish white cotton muslin cloth. Spring rebuilding houses (non Corvette types) usually use just cardboard liners. Regards,

                    For what it's worth...

There is no trace of cloth apparent on my original liners.
